The diminutive director A.R. Murugadoss has just three Tamil films to his credit in Vijaykanth’s ‘Ramanaa’, Ajit’s ‘Dheena’ and Suriya’s ‘Ghajini’. All the three were superhit films and turned out to be significant hits in the careers of the actors concerned. In Suriya’s case, though, it almost catapulted him to his present superstardom status.
Murugadoss then went to Bollywood and made the same ‘Ghajini’ with Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan in the lead and courted huge success at the box-office, making other superstars like Shah Rukh Khan and Salman fell the urge to work with Murugadoss in their upcoming films.
After a break of almost four years from Tamil films, Murugadoss has recently started work on his next project titled 'Ezhaan Arivu' starring Suriya and Shruti Haasan (daughter of Kamal Haasan) in lead roles. The film is being produced by Udhayanidhi’s Red Giant Movies and has Suriya playing a circus artiste for the first time in his career.
Besides this, Murugadoss is also said to have entered into an association with Hollywood major Twentieth Century Fox to produce new films. Murugadoss, however, won’t be directing the film and has entrusted the job of directing to Saravanan, his aide for the past many years. Murugadoss and Century Fox would jointly be producing at least two films per year from this year onwards, it is reliably learnt.
“I have involved myself in this endeavour mainly to present opportunities to talented youngsters from various spheres of film-making. If need be, of course, I would take upon the responsibility of directing films under our production,” says Murugadoss.
After he completes 'Ezhaan Arivu', a formal announcement about the production arrangements with Fox would be made, he informed mediapersons.
